A super-awesome LibriVox project made it to the catalog today! It was one of those projects, that are the reason, why I love LibriVox so much! So a huge drum roll please for the Christmas Carol Collection 2009!
It consists of 30 carols, which are all unique, very personal and just a lot of fun to listen to! But let me forwarn you, listening will spoil your liking for commercial ones forever! 😉 There is nothing commercial, slick or overproduced about them… and they certainly don’t make you wonder, how the singer got through all the verses without dropping dead from lack of breathing. They are just the real thing and more fun to listen to, then I can say! (Btw. don’t worry I’m not singing… I just did the prooflistening. ;))
Btw. if you liked them, you might like the Christmas Carol Collection 2006!
Oooo, I almost forgot. While you are at it, listen to Jan’s beautiful recording of “The Christmas Angel” by Abbie Farewell Brown! It’s one of the loveliest Christmas stories I’ve read (in this case heard) so far!
At first it strongly reminds one of the more-than-well-known-and-I’ll-probably-start-to-scream Uncle Scrooge thing…. but first impressions can be misleading. Anyway here is Jan’s summary:
Disagreeable old Miss Terry spends her Christmas Eve getting rid of toys from her childhood toy box. One by one she tosses them onto the sidewalk in front of her house, then secretly watches the little scenes that occur, which seem to confirm her belief that true Christmas spirit does not exist. Then the Angel from her childhood Christmas tree appears to show Miss Terry that she has not yet witnessed the final act of each of those little dramas…
